Winny Widiani Shares Insights on Realizing Net-Zero Carbon at National Seminar Civil Engineering Festival 2024

July 14, 2024

Winny Widiani, Project Manager Ecobuild Green Building Consultant, was invited as one of the panelists at the Civil Engineering Festival 2024, National Seminar, held on Saturday, 13th July 2024, at the Auditorium of Politeknik Negeri Jakarta.

In this National Seminar, the Civil Engineering Festival 2024 carried the theme “Indonesia’s Transformation With The Role Of SDGs”.

Winny explained the goal of achieving Net-Zero Emissions by 2060, highlighting the urgency with a striking fact: in 2023, the global mean temperature was estimated to be 1.54 ± 0.06 °C (2.77 ± 0.11 °F) above the 1850-1900 average. This significant temperature rise underscores the pressing need for sustainable practices to secure a carbon-neutral future.

In this session, Winny Widiani discussed “Realizing Net-Zero Carbon: Accelerating Towards a Sustainable Indonesia”, highlighting that Indonesia contributes to reducing carbon emissions by up to 29%.

The green building sector plays a vital role in cutting carbon emissions, as buildings account for 36-42% of global emissions. By transforming our buildings into energy-efficient, sustainable spaces, we can make a substantial impact on our fight against climate change.

Winny also highlighted the importance of reducing carbon emissions in the green building sector. The benefits of Green Building Implementation, not only participating in reducing the impact of global warming, it is also increasing the value of the building, and the comfort and health of its occupants, saving building electricity use and building water use.

“Indonesia faces challenges in achieving Net-Zero Emissions by 2060 in the construction sector. This mainly because of the lack of public awareness and understanding of green building practices, high investment costs, and the importance of synergizing all disciplines, especially at the beginning of the construction phase”,said Winny Widiani in her closing statement.
