Winny Widiani Addresses Sustainable Construction Amid Climate Change Challenges

October 11, 2024

To promote awareness about sustainability in building construction, Winny Widiani, Project Manager Ecobuild Green Building Consultant, was invited as a speaker at the HSE Series of Event Vol. 1 held by the Civil and Environmental Scientific Association at the University of Indonesia on 10th October 2024.

The event focused on the theme “Green Building Implementation for Sustainability in Building Construction,” highlighting the importance of sustainable practices amid the challenges of climate change and urbanization.

Climate change, driven by carbon emissions and human activities, poses significant threats to the environment and quality of life. The buildings sector accounts for 36-42% of global carbon emissions, making the adoption of green buildings crucial for mitigating negative impacts.

In her presentation, Winny explained that green buildings are designed to minimize environmental impacts and enhance energy efficiency, with certifications available such as Greenship, Bangunan Gedung Hijau (BGH), LEED, EDGE, Fitwel, and WELL.

The implementation of green buildings offers numerous benefits, including reducing global warming impacts, increasing property values, enhancing occupant comfort and health, and saving on electricity and water usage.

Despite ongoing challenges like a lack of public understanding, Winny hopes to foster greater collaboration among stakeholders to accelerate the adoption of green buildings. “We need to raise awareness about the importance of sustainability to create a better future,” she emphasized, encouraging all parties to commit to sustainability in the construction sector.
